Kauai Ono Review & Hawaii Vacation

My husband and I just got home from a very wonderful, relaxing Hawaii vacation.  We were both extremely sad to leave:( But back to the real world.

We went for some R&R, but before I could sip Mai Thai’s on the beach all day, I had to earn it, so I entered the Kauai Half Marathon.

It was a total blast, and even with all of the hills, I had a pretty good time.

Most of our meals were cooked by me in the timeshare we were staying in.  If you do head to Kauai, don’t forget that Costco card.  It was definitely worth it to make a stop when we got there since we had a kitchen.  They had pastured eggs, hawaiian purple sweet potatoes, wine, macadamia nuts, fresh caught ahi tuna, and plenty more good Paleo eats.

We went out to dinner twice and I am so happy we made the drive to the North Side of the island to attend dinner with Kauai Ono. They are a farm to table, pop up, type restaurant/food truck. It was incredible what actually came out of that tiny food truck. No it wasn’t 100% Paleo, but it was pretty darn close.  If you vacation in Kauai, you have to make a reservation with these folks.

Tent set up, you never know when you will experience a rain shower in Kauai.

It was BYOB, they provide you with extra glasses and cork screws. We brought Red Wine, kind of wish I would have brought white, but oh well

First Course – Breadfruit with Beets

Second Course – Kaneshiro Pig w/ pea shoots and a banana chip (this was my favorite course)

Third Course – Mixed Greens Salad w/ Citrus Dressing

Fourth Course – Waluo Fish, Kale, & Purple Sweet Potato (This was a close favorite as well.  The fish was perfectly cooked and oh so tender, it just melted in your mouth.)

Fifth Course – Chocolate Torte w/ Cocosprout & cream (I asked the chef was the ingredients were, everything was paleo except the sugar, I was pretty impressed.)

In the middle of dinner I asked if i could go take some pictures inside the truck.  They graciously said yes. The food truck was pretty awesome and the chef was extremely friendly.  I definitely would recommend this to any of my friends.
